A faithful wife and a loving mother

We honor her on her birthday

This is between Dec. 1982 - Jan. 1984

The tradition carried on with two addition members in the Christmas cast, our nephews - Jens and Bjon. Jens was the angel Gabriel.

And Bjon was one of the three Kings.

Amy loved her parents. We lived in Edmonton, Alberta then. They came visit often when they lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

She loved to create memories and working tirelessly to make birthday cakes of children's wishes. Andrew wanted a sail boat for his 4th birthday and he got it.

In this same year, she created a birthday mat to be used for all birthdays. Andrew was the first one to use the mat.

There you are, her five lovely children from 8 months to 7.5 years old.

On Michelle 6th birthday, Amy perfected her skill in making roses on the cake. Make a wish, Michelle.

Michelle wanted a rose on her piece of cake to thank her mother's effort.

Jason wanted a Pac Man cake and his wish came true.

He didn't even need help to cut the cake.

On Nancy's first birthday, Amy made her a fancy birthday cake but she didn't careless what was placed in front of her.

"I need help to blow out the candle, mom."

Terry left BYU without finished his dissertation. It was time to go back to Provo on a working holiday with Amy's full support.

Terry took time off to play with the family as well during our visit to Provo. It was a very successful work/play holiday. BYU was just as lovely as ever. It was nice to be "home".

This was Clarence important birthday. He was 8 years old, a baptismal age in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Amy was proud of Clarence's desire to be baptised.

In 4 days, Amy made 2 cakes for Clarence.

On Jan. 12, 1984, Clarence was invested to be in the Cub troop. The family was there to rally behind him to give our support.

The last entry does not look complete without Nancy who was born in 1982
1981 - 1982

A trip to the Provo River was a fun experience for the children, especially for the boys.

I can throw far.

So Can I.

Let me try it out. Not bad for a beginner.

Amy loved spending time make fun birthday party for the children. She planned everyting in details.

The three legged race was the children's favorite.

For the birthday dinner, whoever's birthday could choose what s/he wanted to eat and she would do it for him/her.

As you look at this picture, you will see letter cards forming words on the wall. She took great effort to teach her children how to read and write. When Clarence was 2 years old, she read from the newspapers that many of the high school graduates could not fill out an application. She worried. So, she decided to give her children a head start by teaching them phonics in word construction. Because of her effort, everyone of her children knew how to read when they were 3 years old.

Clarence was old enough to cut his own birthday cake with her guiding at the side.

The Christmas tradition continued. Now a donkey (rocking horse) was added to the scene

and a shepherd while she read the Christmas story.

Children were happy to receive Christmas stockings from Santa on Christmas day.

"Wow! There are more stuff than I thought."

Jason said: "Christmas is a blast."

Michelle said: "I am pretty, so very pretty....." with her new bonnet on her head.

Clarence helped Jason play the hammer and screw set while Andrew was playing with the airplane.

Christmas always came with a great turkey dinner with different kinds of trimmings.

On the eve of New Year, her sister May and daughter Jolene came to Provo to visit from Winnipeg. Her brother and his family came too from the New York state. She welcomed them with open arms.

That was the first time the three Js met - Jolene Wong, John Chan, and Jason Tang.

We lived not too far from the Provo Temple. Often, we took a Sunday walk to the temple

and rested at the place where now MTC stands.

She patiently decorated the cake for Andrew. That is what he wanted - a school bus. He could blow his own candles without assistance.

But he still needed her hand to cut the cake.

Shortly there after was Michelle's birthday. Another cake was made - A nicely decorated cake with flowers. This is a mighty blow, Michelle.

She was very careful about children handling knife.

By now, we knew our stay in Provo would come to an end. Terry had a job offer back in Canada. Amy's confirmation had come to pass that everything would work out in the end - "the Lord will provide when the time comes"

Before we left Provo, she wanted to create Provo/BYU memories for the children.

She took them to the BYU married students housing map. She wanted her children to remember where they used to live when they were growing up. Clarence and Michelle pointed at our trailer on the map.

Amy was then 6 months pregnant with her fifth child.

In May, 1982, we left Utah and moved back to Canada

On August 14, 1982. Nancy was born three months after we moved back to our old house in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

She was the last bundle of joy for Amy.

We called her "Baby".

On this Thanksgiving season, we have many things to be thankful, especially for the principle of eternal family that Amy taught her family

1978 - 1981

Amy loved to create memories for her children. On th way to SLC, we stopped by Idaho Falls Temple.
Visited the Eagle Gate

and the SL Temple in SLC.

Rode the train and

taking a leisure walk in the Hogle Zoo.

Revisited the BYU campus

and the Bridal veil Falls in the Provo Canyon.

Back in Edmonton, she would take children to the park to play with them and

even swing Michelle in the air.

She always regreted that many of Andrew's pictures were lost from birth (April 9) to 3 months because of the photo mail-order service in Toronto. This is one of the few pictures of Andrew she treasured.

When children played in the side walk, her ever watching eyes were in the background.

Even though children played in safe backyard environment, her ever seaching eyes were always there.

Terry wanted to go back to school for his graduate work in August, 1979. She was very uncomfortable with the idea. Until she had gotten her confirmation from the Lord, she left her comfortable environment behind and left for an adventure. Once her mind was settled, she had a mavelous two years and nine months in the Happy Valley.

Clarence spent his "first" birthday in Provo, 1979.

Then the Halloween came

and the Christmas.

She was very grateful that Andrew's first birthday pictures weren't lost

Her parents came to visit during the time we celebrated Andrew's birthday.

She loved her parents and was very grateful that they traveled far to visit from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We took them to visit Sundance, Utah.

Not too long after our arrival to Utah, she was pregnant with our fourth child.

On June 25, 1980 six month before Christmas, Jason was born.

Life all of a sudden became busier with the arrival of her fourth child. She had four children from a few days to 5 years old to look after while her husband was in school. Even though life was hectic at times, she enjoyed the experience.

She loved experiential learning. she would take the children to the zoo and other activities

When Clarence started kintergarten, she made sure he got on the right bus.

Spiritual education was important to her. She dressed up children as Mary and Joseph while she read from the Bible on the account of the birth of Christ. This lasted for several years. After children grew older, she abandoned the dressed-up enactment idea and children would take turn to read from the passages found in Matthew and Luke on the birth of our Savior.

Jason was born with pigeon toed feet. A couple of months before Christmas, a special device was made to correct them.

It was another additional task. She never failed to put them on and took them off as schedules by the doctor until his began to learn how to walk

Christmas was one of her favorites. She would make sure the spirit of Chrismas was in the home for the children to enjoy

Occasionally, she would take children to the temple ground to enjoy its surroundings.

In 1981, her parents bought her a new dress suit that she proundly displayed it.

It was Andrew's second birthday. She patiently and creatively decorated his birthday day cake for the event. As always, she helped to blow the candles. This time she had Clarence and Michelle to help her out.

As always, she encouraged and coached her children when they learned how to walk. Jason was trying very hard to reach her guiding hands.

In the fairground, Lagoon, she held Jason while

watched closely the other three enjoyed their "speed" boat advanture.

You might wonder if she introduced Clarence into denistry when in the fairground.

For a person who was afraid of height, this is a big sacrifice.

Never failing, ever watching for the big events in the life of the children.

She would encourage children to love and care for each other. Today, her children truly love and care for each other because of her teaching.

I love to see the temple. I will be there someday....... Because of her examples and love of the temple, all her children have either been through or married in the temple.
